Save Trestles! – California Coastal Commission Meeting Rescheduled
I don’t why or what happened, but the T.C.A. decided that October 11th was not the right time to present their case in front of the Coastal Commission. The hearing has been rescheduled for sometime in early 2008, from what Surfrider told us on the phone.
Thanks to the Surfrider Foundation, Sierra Club, Friends of the Foothills and all of the other organizations and individual supporters, the T.C.A. has stalled momentarily. We see this as a great time to spread the word even more…Grab a Save Trestles stencil and paint a trash can!

The most important public hearing to Save Trestles will take place on Thursday October 11 in San Pedro (near LA) when the California Coastal Commission hears an application for the toll road through San Onofre State Park.

This IS NOT the time to be laissez-faire about the toll road issue. If we do not show our support at the Coastal Commission hearing, they will grant the T.C.A. approval to proceed. We would like to congratulate Bryce Dehaan, Katin Surf Shop employee and surf team member, for placing 1st in the Explorer Men’s division in the NSSA Southwest Conference Explorer contest. The contest was held at 9th street in Huntington Beach in waist to chest high surf.

Custom Surf Trunks
Custom surf trunks, it must seam like a novel concept to most surfers around the world, especially the under 30 crew. Now days most surfers see the boardshorts they want before they ever step foot into a surf shop and walk into their local surf shop or shop online with the exact brand, style name and color of the boardshorts they want in mind.

I kept hearing this over and over and over yesterday while shooting photos in South Orange County. It was like the classic broken record cliché, but coming from multiple people at different times. In true fashion of keeping a spot secret, I won't say where I was, but I will say if you got in trouble out there, there was no one else around to help you except other surfers! And....No, it was not the Wedge in Newport! Let see if this place, on this day (April 11th 2007), will make it into the mags. I didn't see anyone else taking photos except one guy from the water, (who I didn't even know was there until I looked at the photos on my computer). ... Scenario: You show up at a concert only to have your super secret flask discovered (before you walk in), during a "pat-down" by some 900 lb guerilla wearing a yellow jacket that says, "Event Staff" on the back. Well, then good thing your wearing back up... in the form of sandals! O.K., normally we wouldn't blog about a product, but we just received these new sandals from Reef and I had to spread the word.The sandal is called the Dram, and if you're under 21 years old please close your eyes and cover your ears. The Dram features a flask like type of "liquid holding device" in the heels. Reef calls this a, "Polyurethane encapsulated canteen in heel with screw cap"...we just call ... The shop is starting to receive Hurley and Hurley Girls Spring '07 products. And as usual, we either download the images or get a disk from Hurley which contains the product photos we use on the site. So, last week we're looking through the new Hurley Young Contemporary (Hurley Girls) product images for Spring 2007 and noticed "Tessa" from MTV's
Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County doing some modeling. We thought we'd share some of the photos with you.

Try driving 15 hours plus through the badlands of Utah, while trying to pass endless 18 wheel monsters swerving all over the road and a pee break every four or five hours (if you're lucky)! All this just to get to your favorite surf spot. As it turns out a lot more people surf in Colorado then you'd think.

Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel
So after being bombarded by users sending in screen shots from MTV's "Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel", I thought I would post a few.
For those of you living under a rock or in a time warp, The Duel is comprised of twenty cast members from previous episodes of MTV's reality shows Real World, Road Rules and Fresh Meat. The Duel takes place in beautiful Brazil where alumni cast members compete against each other for the chance to win a half of a million dollars. Apparently a few of the cast members have been seen wearing Katin clothing and by the photos emailed to us, more then a few of you watch the show.
